Types of BracesBraces are a tried and true method for correcting your oral misalignment issues and crooked teeth. Currently, approximately four million people in the U.S. wear braces, with one million of those being adults. Not only do braces correct appearance problems, they can correct and prevent physical problems caused by misaligned teeth and jaws. Braces are an important tool for achieving ideal dental health.
Egger Orthodontics offers many options to help you or your child attain a healthy smile with straight teeth! We are here to help you assess the options and find the best type of braces for you. Read the descriptions below for braces and clear aligners options.
Metal BracesMetal braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable and efficient today than ever before. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. With metal braces, you have the option of adding fun colors for a more unique and colorful smile!
Ceramic BracesCeramic braces are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, ceramic braces are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene as ceramic braces are larger and are more brittle than their metal counterparts. For these reasons, ceramic braces tend to be used more often on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.
Clear AlignersMany patients can be treated with clear plastic aligners, such as Invisalign, that are nearly invisible and can be removed for dental care, eating, and drinking. The patient wears a series of slightly different shaped clear appliances over a matter of months or years to correct tooth alignment.
Getting BracesModern technology allows us to use a special process and materials to glue the braces right to the surface of the teeth. We don't have to remove any part of the tooth or drill holes in the tooth to do this - they stick right to the outside of the tooth. This process usually takes about 15 minutes depending on how many teeth are receiving braces. It is as easy as 1-2-3!
Orthodontic Problems Treated by BracesMany orthodontic problems can be treated with braces, including:
